INTEGRATIVE EMDR INTENSIVES
Customised to meet your therapeutic needs and goals over a time-frame that suits your schedule.
Intensives are a focused, evidence-based treatment option that can reduce and resolve disruptive symptoms and patterns leading to meaningful and lasting change.
BENEFITS OF INTENSIVE THERAPY
Effective
EMDR Therapy has over 30 years of peer-reviewed research backing its effectiveness. It is considered a frontline treatment for PTSD, depression, and anxiety disorders by the Australian Psychological Society. Research from the Netherlands has shown that working in an intensive format allows for accelerated reduction and resolution of symptoms beyond standard EMDR Therapy. In some cases, trauma-related symptoms are completely eliminated.
Accelerated & Time Efficient
The intensive format uses longer and more frequent sessions, and condenses 3 to 6 months of therapy into 1 to 4 weeks. Intensives are highly focused and eliminate the need for attending to present-day stresses or struggles that can often happen in traditional therapy.
Depth of Processing
A core part of EMDR Therapy is allowing the nervous system to process through and metabolise stored, unprocessed memories, emotions, and beliefs. Having longer therapy sessions (2 hours) over a shorter time frame allows for deeper reprocessing to occur leading to deeper change through memory reconsolidation. This enables EMDR to work as effectively as possible.
Integrative
Intensive treatment programs with me are integrative. I combine my background in Clinical Psychology alongside my extensive experience with EMDR, Somatic Psychotherapy, parts work, and innovative memory consolidation techniques to facilitate meaningful change and assist you in reaching your therapy goals and intentions.
Different intensive programs are available to suit your therapeutic goals and schedule.

After being the clinical lead for a group practice intensive program and personally delivering over 25 intensives, I have found:
The intensive format is highly focused and allows for a greater depth of therapeutic work to occur over a shorter timeframe
Results and meaningful change occur faster for many individuals
There is often a significant reduction in, and at times elimination of, PTSD symptoms or other areas of distress
Memory reconsolidation occurs faster and is sustained
Longer sessions allow for a greater level of reprocessing
Longer sessions that happen frequently create a therapeutic container - allowing for greater safety to work through traumatic memories completely
The format is more consistent and aligned with the original recommendations for EMDR which were for longer duration of sessions of at least 90 minutes
There is less checking in about day to day stressors or events that can, at times, distract from deeper therapeutic work
For some clients, it becomes the preferred way of working over traditional therapy
Due to efficiency and effectiveness, intensives are cost-saving in the longer term

You are welcome to book into an post-intensive integration session with me. Continued, ongoing work with me is subject to availability.

Every person’s therapeutic needs and goals are unique. The people I have worked intensively with have often preferred this method of working, and have chosen to do additional intensives as needed.

If, for some reason you need to cancel or reschedule your intensive block, please provide as much notice as possible. At minimum, I require 14 days notice of cancellation. If this does not occur and I am unable to fill that intensive block you will forfeit your $200 deposit.

I’m only able to provide services as a Clinical Psychologist in the country where I hold registration. So if you are permanently residing outside of Australia, I won’t be able to offer this service to you. If you normally reside in Australia and are temporarily overseas, we can work together, but while you are overseas you are not eligible for Medicare rebates to be processed.

The intensive program is a unique therapeutic format that is fast and efficient. However due to the intensive nature, it has the potential to be destabilising or overwhelming for some people. Part of my role as an EMDR therapist is to ensure we are only going into territory that your nervous system can currently manage and reprocess through safely. Some guidelines where an intensive might not be a good option for you:
You are just starting out on your therapeutic journey and have no previous experience with psychotherapy
You are in active addiction
You have an eating disorder and this is not well-managed
You have an underlying dissociative disorder and have not received any treatment for this
You have suffered a traumatic brain injury or are experiencing any kind of post-concussive syndrome
You are currently suicidal or actively using self-harm as a coping mechanism
You are involved in police proceedings or a court case that is reliant on witness statements from you or memories that you hold
You are not ready for significant change
You have experienced a psychotic episode in the last 6 months
You are currently living in a highly stressful, chaotic, or traumatising circumstances that are taking up most of your emotional and psychological resources
You are in a mental health crisis or life circumstance that is life-threatening

No. With any health or medical service results vary between individuals. EMDR is highly effective, but the more trauma and stress there has been, and the earlier and more persistently it has occurred the more therapeutic work is often required. However, of the 25 intensives I have conducted over 90% of participants indicated experiencing significant positive changes in post-intensive follow-up.
